Cowboy Church

Today began by attending “Cowboy Church” held at a local horse ranch. Thank you, Dave and Dolly, for organizing this “alternative” Sunday worship which brought us together in a humble setting – a horse barn.

Walking into the sanctuary.

The office – VERY cute!

Brooklyn listening intently to the music.

I never remember sitting in church with my grandparents. We lived two hours away from them. When we used to visit, I remember the time always going way too fast and heaviness in my heart as we headed back home. The songs that were sung today made me think of my harvest grandma. I remember hearing Grandma singing every one of them. I loved hearing her sing. She didn’t have a perfect voice but that never stopped her. I heard her voice today and it brought back the heaviness in my heart that I felt as a kid! The song that brought tears to my eyes was her favorite, “The Old Rugged Cross”. In a way, today’s service made me feel close to her again – almost as though she were right there with me…and my family.

Like so many social gatherings in these parts, we had food. We had a smorgasboard of wonderful dishes prepared by those of us who attended Cowboy Church. If anyone walked away hungry…it was their own fault!

And, of course, we couldn’t go to a ranch without visiting the horses!

Nice post. Love the idea of Cowboy Church in a Horse Barn. Good as any kind of sanctuary.

Sounds and looks like it was fun. I always enjoy the more countryfied gatherings, like that, our church will put on. There’s just something about the barn setting that feels different, a good different.
