Boring, Boredom, Bored…Ugh!

I think the title of this posting will give you a pretty good view of what’s going on in camp today.

This is a part of the job that tends to wear on me. A day off (or even a couple of days) is always a welcome break. We’re on our 8th day of sitting – except for the two days of moving equipment to Deerfield. We worked pretty hard up to June 2nd which was the day we completed the last field in Arnett – just before the rain. So, I DID enjoy it… for a while.

Me and Callie

Since moving to Deerfield, we found out we have two days of work and the wheat won’t be ready for at least 10 days. The acres we are supposed to help with are under irrigation pivots. The farmer has his own machine and is cutting the dry land wheat which is not yielding very well (10-20 bushels/acre).  I guess I can’t blame him for not wanting to hire help for those acres.  This could end up being a complete waste of time. Jim and Taylor took off yesterday afternoon with some homemade flyers to distribute to elevators and convenient stores but came home with nothing but hope that someone will call. I’ve put the word out on Facebook and twitter hoping someone will remember the Z’s if they hear of someone needing a little bit of help. I have a feeling, though, the wheat in Western KS isn’t going to be good enough to justify anyone looking for extra help. I know God has a plan – we just have to be patient. It’s very hard for me knowing that wheat’s getting cut and machines are moving while we are not.

The result of time on our hands.

Can you get seasick in a trailer house? This wind is CRAZY today and is causing our cottage on wheels to be in constant movement. I just wonder how hard it’s blowing. Unfortunately, it blew over my potted flower and broke it (the plant not the pot). Dang! It was just beginning to look decent.  I guess there’s still enough summer left that it may “pop” out of it.

We’ve been invited to have supper with friends who live in Garden City. That will be a nice change of  pace and someone different to talk to. And…something to look forward to. Why is it that when we have down time, we have no one sitting in the same trailer park to visit with? At least we have some TV and internet – guess you just can’t have everything.

The girls put together a short video to have uploaded to the All Aboard site and thought you may enjoy it as well:
